MYP Fair to showcase sophomore IB Personal Projects April 8

Sophomores turned in their International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program Personal Poject into their teachers and supervisors to grade in mid-March. The grades are worth 10 percent of their English class grade, and the project is one of the requirements for attaining the IBMYP certificate.

The Class of 2016 started their projects in October. Students are required to create a final product that they can display to their supervisors and write about what they learned in the goal paper.

The 1500-3000 word goal paper was a major part of the final product, requiring students to reflect and share on how their project went.

This project allowed students to demonstrate their knowledge and skills in any area they choose to involve themselves in.

“My partner Kaleb Schultz and I learned how to program using software from the internet to create a videogame,” sophomore John Leberre said. “It is really fun to see how it is done and have the ability to create whatever you want.”

Other sophomores chose to organize events that will benefit the community for their project.

Sophomores Kristina Woodward, Raquel Jacobs, and Becca Hogarth are organized a 5K race to benefit Alzheimer’s Disease by raising money to support the Alzheimer’s Association.

“We thought that organizing a 5K to raise funds for Alzheimer’s disease awareness would be the best way to help out our community,” Woodward said. “We wanted to start something that matters and will raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease.”

Other sophomores took a more creative path with their personal project, such as Dante Desisti, John Hughes and Louie Boyum.

“We made a music video that has a rap battle between two vegetables,” Desisti said. “We always wanted to make a comedy music video and this was our chance to do it.”

Students will display their work during the Personal Project Fair April 8 in the cafeteria at 5 p.m.
