College opportunities available for students

Various college opportunities for interested students will be offered at school over the course of a few months. FCPS College Fair and College Night are coming up later this month.

Through November 25, there will be multiple college visits weekly where representatives from colleges will talk to students about the resources that their college offers.

“The visits take your information because some schools have demonstrative interest where they track your progress early before you send your college applications, so I would highly recommend these visits to seniors and juniors,” career center specialist Karen Burke said.

Over 60 colleges are reaching out to seniors and juniors within the Seahawk community. The representatives will talk for 30 minutes about the application process, give information about their school, and answer any questions a student may have.

“I am all for the college visits because students have always been told by parents and friends how to present yourself for college but this opportunity allows you to talk to admission officers face to face rather than on paper so it’s really important,” personal finance teacher Alexander Turner said.

There is also an opportunity to attend a college fair at Fair Oaks Mall in which college admissions staff from around the country come to talk with high-school students October 19.

“I think all the college opportunities offered to us are informative because I can ask questions and concerns to representative and see what colleges have to offer,” senior Jordan Aghamiri said.
