Since iPods and cell phones were invented, teachers and students have disagreed about whether or not they should be used in class. Teachers think it disrupts class and prevents students from learning, while some students feel that it should be okay to use them as long as they don’t affect the rest of the class.
People think iPods should be allowed in school because they help some students focus better on their work. Sometimes kids like to have music playing in the background while working to relieve stress, which can actually make them work faster and more productively.
One reason people think cell phones should be allowed in school is so that students can know what’s going on around them by communicating. If an emergency occurs, or you need to ask your parents something, having a cell phone is the best way to do that. Another pro is that most phones have apps that can help with school, such as a notepad or a calculator.
Other people, especially teachers and workers, dislike students using “tech toys” in school. Cell phones often ring or vibrate in class, and that has a possibility of interrupting a lesson, as well as being just plain annoying. Teachers also think of cell phones as cheating devices or ways to pass notes and answers. They don’t like IPods because they might prevent you from learning.
I think cell phones and iPods are fine in school as long as it doesn’t disrupt the class or the lesson. Cell phones are great for taking notes by texting to yourself, as many teens these days can text as fast as they can write, and having it on something you use often makes it harder to forget.
iPods should be allowed when doing schoolwork because they help some people focus. After staying in school for many hours every day with no recess, students get restless, which is why it is good for them to have something to take their mind off of things.
Teachers assume that all students that carry around cell phones are cheating, copying homework, possibly even bullying and spreading rumors. This is completely wrong. As a student, I can say that I have never seen someone use a cell phone as a cheating device, or even ask a friend for an answer on a homework sheet. The truth is, most students text during school to their friends simply because they want to stay in touch. It is unlikely to have classes with all of your friends, so you have less time to chat during the day.
