Many wishes for the school start time to change

Fairfax County is considering changing the school start time from 7:20 a.m. to 8 a.m. or 9 a.m. for 2015-2016. Students, teachers, and parents argue on whether the school start change is a wise decision or not.

Some say that the county should not change the school start time because it conflicts with after-school activities. However, others say that the county should change the school start time to a later time.

Many students struggle to wake up at around five in the morning and get ready for school. With the school start time changed to a later a time, students will be able to get more sleep and wake up at a natural time to start their day.

Professionals and doctors say that the teenage mind is still in sleep mode before 8 a.m. Therefore, some students and teachers hope to go to school at a later time. Getting up at a later time will also be easier for both students and teachers and burden them less.

Although some say that the later start change may have a negative effect for after-school activities, some coaches and teachers confessed that the later start change will be easier for them and won’t have a huge change on after-school activities.

Even though the later start time results in a later end time, students and teacher believes that their daily lives will not have a dramatic change. Many hopes that the county will change the school start time to a later time.
