Junior receives Japanese department internship for the summer

Junior Max Onozuka will be interning with the Japanese department this summer.

Students taking Japanese 3 and IB Japanese were given the chance to apply for an internship with the government.

“I got the opportunity to and I think it would be a great experience to figure out what the government is and like how it functions,” junior Max Onozuka said. “It’s an opportunity I just can’t pass down.”

“All I know so far is that I’m going to be translating and sitting in certain meetings but nothing specific that I know of, but I’m excited,” Onozuka said.

The internship program began this year for Japanese and Onozuka is the first one in Virginia to intern with the government for the Japanese department.

“I don’t feel anything special,” Onozuka said. “I’m really happy that I was chosen but I don’t really care if I’m the first person or not.
