After the Redskins rough season finishing 3-13 the Redskins head coach, Mark Shanahan was fired.

Redskins owner Dan Snyder met briefly with Shanahan and told him that he was done coaching the Redskins.  Shanahans assistants on his staff have meet separately one on one with Redskins manager Bruce Allen, as a result a few of his assistants were fired as well. Bruce Allen said he plans to stay with the organization and will keep the department in place.

Just last season Mike Shanahan and star quarterback  Robert Griffin lll  on the Redskins were working well together and the team seemed to be doing well. Griffin was known as an exploding talented rookie quarterback. The team had a seven consecutive win streak and took the NFC East Crown.

After suffering a  gruesome injury against the Ravens Griffins career seemed to be over. Shanahan benched the franchise quarterback in preparation for the offseason.

Alot of people have mixed thoughts on this choice and what has been going on in the Redskins committee.

“The Redskins did terrible this past season and I think it’s very necessary for them to get a new committee,” said sophomore Lashay Valo.

The owner hired a new head coach named Jay Gurden.  Shanahan has a history with football and being a quarterback. During his time in Arena Football league he won four ArenaBowls. Shanahan played in Florida for the Chiefs as a quarterback under coach Billy Turner. Because of this it makes Jay Gurden a good match up with the star quarterback Robert Griffin.

“I think Gurden is a good coach for the Redskins, coming from a good family and being a well rounded guy,” physical education teacher Sean Lanigan said. “He is a good match up with Robert Griffin  because you need someone to be able to handle a quarterback with a personality and such physical ability.
“Jay Gurden will be a great coach for the Redskins and will benefit them in many ways,” varsity football coach Marvin Wooten said. “Coming from a background of quarterback football he should be able to coordinate a good year.”
