Color Guard will participate in the multicultural festival

JROTC Color Guard will participate in the annual 2014 Reston multicultural festival on September 27, 2014. The event begins at 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Each member of the Color Guard is from a different cultural background. Rain or shine, the event will occur at the Lake Anne Plaza.

Sophomores Arianna Spencer, Daniel Ennis, Vanessa Chavez and Khalid Elshowaya will be participating in this annual event. Ennis will be leading the Color Guard in their routine for his first time.

“I’m a bit nervous,” Ennis said. “This will be my first Color Guard this year and I don’t know how many people are going to be there.”

Elshowaya remains calm about the upcoming event and his role in it.

“Color Guard might be a nerve racking experience for some, but I stay cool, calm and collected,” Elshowaya said. “My determination to succeed is greater than my fear of failure.”

Like Elshowaya, Chavez is also confident about participating in the multicultural festival and has faith in everyone participating in it.

“I feel great about the Color Guard,” Chavez said. “We are doing well. Everyone gets their parts and we’re all in step.”
