Variety of cell phone apps aid, entertain consumers

Just last month, the iTunes App Store reached 1 million entries, according to About.com. But with so many choices, how do users find the ones best suited for them?

Apple has been designing systems to help users find apps they may like, such as GeniusĀ® and the new “Near Me” search criteria in the iOS 7 App Store.

The old methods of search found in the App Store are still used heavily though, with Top Charts and Feature Apps still being primary sources for users to browse new selections.

Yet despite all these methods of app hunting goodness, some people are still uncertain they have the most popular apps out there.

How can South Lakes students know what the latest and greatest is in the world of mobile applications?

Perhaps some opinions from fellow Seahawks may help.

The app Candy Crush Saga has maintained top chart position for several weeks now, and freshman Malina Stassinos is really enjoying it.

“I just downloaded Candy Crush a few days ago, and Iā€™m already really addicted to it,”Stassinos said.

Sportsy types may have other preferences.

“I just got ScoreCenter,” freshman Justin May said. “It keeps me updated.”

However, despite new offerings, some apps from months and years ago still maintain relevance.

“I love Twitter,” Stassinos said. “Itā€™s a good way to see what my friends are up to.”

And the NFL never fails to keep in the spotlight.

“I like Madden,” May said. “Because I like to beat people and win.”

While these arenā€™t even scratching the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the now million-app strong App Store, these may offer some interesting selections when it comes to how you can spice up your mobile life.
