Over the summer, South Lakes administrators received a brand new smiling edition to their growing staff, Mr. Peter Kownacki.
How long have you been a teacher?
I worked at Robinson High for eight years as a teacher.
What subjects did you teach at Robinson?
I taught World History 2, IB 20th Century Topics, and I taught Leadership Training, and Student Government class.
Why did you decide to become an administrator?
As I got more involved with student government stuff and attending every event, I was getting more involved in day to day workings of the school. So the principal there said I should look into administration as well. So about a year ago I started doing my course work to get my administrative license as well. I finished that last year and I started working here in the summer.
How has the transition been from Robinson to South Lakes?
A lot of the things that are going on here are things that I am used to when I was teaching at Robinson so it’s been a very smooth transition. The community has been really warm and welcoming, and the staff has been warm and welcoming, the kids are cool so it’s been a nice transition.
So I heard that you like to wear bow ties?
Yeah I wear bow ties at least two or three times a week. I started doing it in college. I went to UVA and it was a tradition to dress up for football games.. Set yourself apart from everyone a little bit. So I continued to wear them. My wife and kids get them for me every year.
