Rick Santorum announced Monday that he will suspend his bid for President of the United States. His announcement comes among the many cries for the inevitability of Mitt Romney winning the Republican Nomination. The news of Santorum’s concession leaves many of the center-left Democrats and far left liberals, such as myself, ecstatic. Rick Santorum was the last real opponent to Mitt Romney.
To be perfectly honest, Santorum had no chance of winning, despite his “family” values. He posed no true threat to the powerhouse, multi-millionaire, businessman that is Mitt Romney. Santorum attempted to win through emotional appeals, rather than dirty politics, and I have to give Santorum credit for his attempts.
But Santorum and Romney both are extremely out of touch with the needs of the average citizen, and only have agendas revolved around big business and forcing a religious belief upon a public who does not necessarily want it.
In the end, Santorum was no match, and even if he managed to win the nomination, he would not have been able to defeat President Obama. The final word on the matter is that Santorum and Romney are too out of touch. The Republican Party needs to reorganize their structure and platform and adapt it to recognize the needs of a drowning economy and a weary people.
