As I prepare to leave this nest and continue my journey as a Seahawk at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, I’m still left wondering: what the heck is a Seahawk?
Well, if any of you still have not figured it out they are not real animals and are some sort of an imaginary hybrid of a seagull and a hawk.
After four long years here at The Lakes I have not just learned what a Seahawk is, I have experienced it.
A Seahawk is a pure being. One of hope and passion and dedication. A Seahawk is spirited and proud. A Seahawk is the direct result of our school’s heart and soul.
Every sports game, every art exhibit, every club meeting, every performance: that’s what makes a Seahawk.
It never mattered if we were supposed to win or lose, there was always a crowd ready to scream and cheer for our fellow Seahawks.
The passion for life and pride in the kelly green and royal blue have been inspirational and encouraging.
I am blessed and privileged to be surrounded by young men and women who all have the ability to bring remarkable change to the world.
You are all capable of doing the impossible even if it feels as if all odds are against you.
When life knocks you down and things seem rough: stand up tall, pull your backpack straps tighter, and pick your nuts up off the ground.
While it is sad to realize we will never again all crowd in a mass of orange in our beloved sub school or see each other every day in the hallways, it is time for us to discover what life has in store for us.
We have each left our own legacy and I am proud of all of our achievements.
It is time for us to be the Seahawks our teachers have nurtured us to be. It is time for us to spread our wings and soar.
It has been an honor to serve all of you, thank you.
Always BEL13VE.
Love forever and always,
Your class president, Nikki
