The Super Bowl is significant to American culture and some even consider it an unofficial national holiday.
Millions of football fans celebrate it with family and friends gathered around the television. People passionately cheer for their favorite teams and express amplified emotions while the game unfolds.
This Super Bowl inspired strong reactions from Seahawks.
“My entire family’s favorite team is the Giants,” said sophomore Jule McCaffrey. “I wanted them to win, so I was happy when they did.”
Freshman Evan Alexis was also pleased by the Giants’ victory.
“I hate the Patriots, so I was glad that the better team won in the end,” said Alexis.
Sophomore Christian Erazo, on the other hand, was frustrated by the game’s outcome.
“I was mad, because the Patriots deserved to win,” said sophomore Christian Erazo.
Sophomore Mackenzie Evans was disappointed by both the Patriots’ loss and their playing ability.
“I was embarrassed for the Patriots because they made a lot of dumb mistakes, especially the safety,” said Evans. “That shouldn’t have happened.”
The Super Bowl holds appeal not only for die-hard football fanatics, but also for those that are interested in the parties, food, and commercials that revolve around the game.
Super Bowl commercials, in particular, have earned a reputation for being entertaining. In fact, the Super Bowl advertisements are arguably more hyped than the game itself. Advertisers pay up to 2.8 million dollars for 30 seconds of coveted airtime.
According to senior Chickia Wesley, the M&M advertisement was extremely amusing.
“My favorite commercial was the M&M commercial where the red M&M took off his shell and started dancing,” said Wesley. “It was really funny.”
Senior Kaylee Mueller preferred the Dannon Oikos Greek yogurt commercial.
“The best commercial was the one where John Stamos was eating the yogurt and the girl head butted him and ate it,” said Mueller.
The halftime show is also one of the event’s hallmarks. This year’s show was well received by most Seahawks.
“I loved the halftime show because Madonna was in it and she’s a legend,” said freshman Carin Hoelzl.
Freshman Joey Freidin agrees, noting that this year’s show was a major improvement from last year’s.
“The show was a lot better than last year’s,” said Freidin. “The Black Eyed Peas aren’t very good live, so Madonna was a lot more entertaining to watch.”
