AFAAFA club brings Big Draw to South Lakes

Art teacher Matt Ravenstahl, AFAFA co-founder Ainsley Eakins, and senior Kaitlyn Prisciandaro draw on paper in the art gallery across from the main office as part of the Big Draw campaign. Students are encouraged to add to the wall throughout the month of October.

Art For All And All For Art (AFAAFA) club members hung blank paper in the art gallery across from the main office today, officially starting their own version of the United Kingdom’s Big Draw campaign.

“In local shops in the UK, people put up paper so anyone can come and draw on it,” AFAAFA co-founder Ainsley Eakins said. “It’s a really great collaborative effort. People draw all throughout October, so by the end of the month you have rows and rows of paper and art styles converging into one.”

Eakins wanted to begin the Big Draw to give her peers a way to express their creative energies.

“We thought that it would be something great for our school to start in the community,” Eakins said. “We started an entire club so that we could be creative, and this definitely ties into that.”

Seahawks are encouraged to draw freely on the paper or add to others’ illustrations while the paper is displayed in the gallery during the next two weeks.
