Preview: “The Man Who Came To Dinner”

The upcoming play from the Theater Arts Department is a comedy showing November 20 through 22 at 7 P.M. in the South Lakes theater. The play is about a selfish, famous writer who stops by the Stanley household during his national tour. As he is leaving, he slips and breaks his hip, leaving him stuck at the home to recover.

The play is coming along and the Director feels the end result will be positive.

The cast and crew recently started rehearsing for the fall show The Man Who Came to Dinner. They have approximately three and a half weeks to put the show together.

“So far everything has been going quite well,” Director Maria Harris said. “We’re in the process of blocking. Our technical crew will start next week in terms of the actual building of the set, so I anticipate that that’s going to go well. And in terms of the actual production, I have all the confidence that this show will be a smashing success.”

The cast is also optimistic. Lily Dunlap, a sophomore, is excited to show the South Lakes community the comedy.

“I think if you enjoyed Leading Ladies, you will love The Man who came to Dinner,” Dunlap said. “I think it will turn out great even though we’ve had less than a month to rehearse. I am excited to show the school the excitement in the Stanley house.”

Freshman Mely Megahed is also enthusiastic about her first time in a South Lakes production.

“I think the fall play is hilarious,” Megahed said. “It takes certain acting techniques to deliver the jokes correctly and humorously and I think we have that down. I think it will go very well. It is a super fun show to see with your family and friends. I am very excited to be in the show, given it will be the first SLHS production I am in.”

Senior Karin Hoelzl is delighted by the people participating in this comedy.

“I think the show is going to be great,” Hoelzl said. “We have a fantastically talented cast and crew who are so motivating and energetic [both] on and off stage. It’s really wonderful to be a part of such a dedicated group of students who just have so much fun and make the rehearsal process such [a] pleasure. I think we are going to have a blast in performances. You won’t want to miss it.”

Admission will cost $8 for students and seniors and $10 for adults.
