Introducing the first Polynesian princess, Moana

Audiences were excited by the footage shown from Walt Disney Studios upcoming animated adventure Moana, during the 2015 Disney D23 expo. Moana will be the first Polynesian princess. The film was originally described as a “mythic adventure set around 2000 years ago and across a series of islands in the South Pacific. Three thousand years ago, the greatest sailors in the world set out on an expedition across the extensive South Pacific, discovering the numerous islands of Oceania. But then, for a millennium, their voyages stopped and even still today people ponder why.”

“From Walt Disney Animation Studios comes Moana, a sweeping, CG-animated adventure about a spirited teenager who sails out on a daring mission to prove herself as a master wayfinder and fulfill her ancestors’ unfinished quest.” It’s no surprise that Disney has a reoccurring theme of  “girl power” throughout their princess movies.

Throughout her journey, Moana meets the once-mighty demi-god Maui (voiced by Dwayne Johnson), and together, they traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous fiery creatures and impossible odds. The voice of Moana will be played by fourteen year-old Auli’i Cravalho, a Native Hawaiian. I’m sure we all can’t wait for yet another musical, comedy adventure.

The film is scheduled to be released Nov. 23 2016.
