Along with the entire new group freshman, South Lakes welcomes a new dean of students, Tony Washington.
“A dean is an administrative position that deals with everything in the school,” said Washington. “It comes with a lot of work, dealing with kids, and also helping out with teachers.”
Washington worked at Langston Hughes Middle School before joining the Seahawk family.
“When I was working at Langston Hughes, I was a special education teacher,” said Washington.
Before Washington worked at Langston, he worked at Lake Anne Elementary.
“I was an itinerant at Langston Hughes Middle School and Lake Anne Elementary,” said Washington. “In that field of work, I got to work with many kids that go here at South Lakes now. That being said it wasn’t hard getting to know most of the kids.”
Although Washington hasn’t worked at South Lakes as long as other teachers have, he’s experienced and ambitious.
Being a dean is just one step that Tony Washington wants accomplish in his life.
“I hope to become an assistant principal in about 2 to 3 years at South Lakes,” said Washington.
