The Amazon Prime show, The Summer I turned Pretty, ended its final season this September. The show had a total of three seasons with the last season having 11 episodes. The show follows a girl named Belly who is caught in a love triangle with two brothers as she deals with heartbreak, first love, and growing up.
In the last season, Belly is now a Junior at Finch College. She gave up volleyball after an injury and is now studying sports psychology. The first episode shocks many fans as Belly discovers that her long term boyfriend, Jeremiah Fisher cheats on her during a spring break trip. Heartbroken by the news, Belly decides to end her relationship with Jeremiah. Belly also receives an opportunity to study abroad in Paris but struggles to share this information with Jeremiah. Meanwhile, the other brother, Conrad Fisher, is doing well in medical school and has been offered a competitive internship. Side characters Taylor, Belly’s best friend, and Steven, Belly’s brother still continue their on and off again relationship while Steven starts working in finance.
The second episode, “Last Christmas,” is mainly a flashback of Conrad and Belly spending the holidays together at the Fisher’s beach house in Cousins. This flashback reveals that there is still a connection between Conrad and Belly because from when they dated back in high school. Belly decides to keep this moment a secret from Jeremiah and hide her feelings from Conrad. The most surprising moment of this episode was when Jeremiah decided to propose to Belly after she forgives him for his infidelity and she accepts the proposal. In the episode, “The Last Supper,” Jeremiah and Belly reveal their engagement to their families, creating a disastrous dinner and shocking Conrad.
The next episode, Belly turns 21 while facing family disapproval of her engagement to Jeremiah, who gives her a key to the Cousins beach house. With this key, she goes to Cousins and runs into Conrad. He postpones his flight to California to support her and agrees to become Jeremiah’s best man to make Belly feel better. Episode five is told from Conrad’s point of view, showing his emotions while running a wedding errand with Belly. This heightens the tension in the love triangle and highlights the differences between the two brothers.
Episode six reveals Belly’s lingering feelings for Conrad and her being overwhelmed with wedding plans. Laurel, Belly’s mom, returns to her life because of Conrad’s negotiation. “The Last Hurrah,” episode seven, delivers an intense night of bachelor and bachelorette parties at Cousins Beach. After discovering Jeremiah’s infidelity, Conrad confesses his love to Belly and she rejects him.
In episode eight, Belly decides not to marry Jeremiah after Conrad’s confession of still loving her, which leads to a dramatic confrontation between the brothers. Belly tells Jeremiah about Conrad’s actions leading to an emotional argument between the couple. Realizing she can’t go through with the wedding and confused about her feelings, she decides to leave for Paris.
After they canceled the wedding, Belly went to Paris to find her independence and study abroad. Upon arriving, she discovers that she isn’t able to study there anymore, so she tries to go home but instead stays when meeting new friends. Jeremiah is still deeply hurt and struggles with their break up and the betrayal from his brother Conrad. In episode ten, it jumps three months ahead, with Belly still being in Paris. On the anniversary of their mothers death, the brothers meet at her grave and have a tense conversation. Jeremiah ultimately gives his blessing for Conrad to go chase after Belly. With this, Conrad books a flight to Paris immediately and sends letters to her while she’s away.
In the season finale, Conrad visits Belly for her birthday in Paris. Belly takes Conrad around the city and invites him to her birthday party. Spending the day with Conrad in Paris, Belly realizes she will always love Conrad and that he will always love her. The two end up together at the end of the episode. Other characters like Steven and Taylor stay together in their relationship, while Jeremiah forms a new connection and career. Fans were not surprised that Conrad and Belly were endgame since they were the fan favorite. People still believe there could be a couple more scenes that will be released, but so far, The Summer I Turned Pretty concluded after three seasons with plot twists, love confessions, and romance. Many will miss these characters on their screens as it is the end of their story for now.
