Actress Nicole Kidman filed for divorce from country singer-songwriter, Keith Urban on September 30, 2025, after 19 years of marriage.
The couple initially met in January of 2005 at the G’Day USA Gala in Los Angeles, where they exchanged phone numbers. Despite it taking months for Urban to reach out to Kidman after the event, he eventually did. The moment he called, their relationship took off.
Kidman announced her engagement to Urban at the 30th Anniversary gala for the United Nations Development Fund for Women, in May of 2006. On June 25th of that same year, the couple held their wedding on a beach in Sydney, Australia.
The newlyweds had their issues. Urban struggled with alcoholism, but believed that his wife supported him and pushed him to become sober. He attended rehab in October for three months, and checked out in January of 2007.
The couple bought their first home together in Nashville, Tennessee, at the end of the year. In 2008, they announced the pregnancy of their first daughter, Sunday Rose. In 2010, their second and last daughter, Faith Margaret was born.
Throughout their relationship, the couple continued to have a pretty healthy and loving relationship from the public’s perspective. They constantly went to events and awards shows together. Urban wrote love songs for his wife, and gave her credit for his sobriety. Kidman often used strong emotion and deep affection when asked about her husband. They supported each other through Urban’s music careers and tours, and Kidman’s acting career.
Kidman and Urban officially announced their divorce on September 29, 2025. Subsequently, Kidman filed for divorce the 30th. The unveiling of their divorce shocked many fans, as they portrayed an affectionate and bubbly relationship the past 19 years. PEOPLE recognized that Irreconcilable differences is one of the main reasons for their split.
