This past weekend over 50 students from South Lakes participated in the yearly DECA state competition, taking place in Virginia Beach. The event consisted of students competing either individually or in groups against students from all over the state.
The three-day weekend event consists of the competition, the award shows, and also some free time to relax. Students compete by going in front of a panel of judges and based on the presentation receive honors such as medals, awards, and the highest honor is making it into the international competition.
“It’s a great place to meet new people from all over,” sophomore Katie Wolfe said.
This was Wolfe’s second year competing in the competition and she one day hopes to make it to internationals.
From South Lakes three teams made in into the international competition, which will take place next month in California. Students will compete against other students from all over the country.
“My favorite part was the whole event because you’re having a great time doing something you love and having fun.” Wolfe said.
