Chantilly is about to get a new major furniture destination. The new addition will transform the local shopping landscape and offer a new and immersive retail experience for residents. It is not clear when the long awaited IKEA store is set to open its doors.
Located just off Route 28 on the Willard Rd exit, IKEA seems to be taking over a large portion of the Dulles Expo Center. The distinct bright blue and yellow building will definitely be hard to miss.
Dulles Expo center is frequently used for conventions and typically attracts many people with all kinds of interests. There is also a Walmart Supercenter on the other side of the parking lot.
IKEA is most known for their furniture showcases and practical and affordable furniture pieces. It is anticipated that this store will be stocked with a wide variety of decorative items, lighting, textiles, and kitchenware.
Shoppers can expect to wander through dozens of meticulously designed room sets. From cozy studio apartments to spacious family homes, IKEA aims to showcase practical and affordable designs.
The new 109,000 square foot store will be slightly smaller than the Potomac Mills and College Park locations in Woodbridge, Va and College Park, Md. The store will also include IKEA’s iconic restaurant, likely with their noteworthy meatballs and cinnamon rolls.
As a distinct part of the IKEA experience, the food market is expected to be a part of this location as well. The famous Swedish food market offers a selection of Scandinavian treats, including the popular meatballs, lingonberry jam, and various packaged Swedish goods.
The store’s opening is anticipated to ease the travel burden for Northern Virginia residents who previously had to drive to locations like Woodbridge or College Park for their IKEA fix. While this new location will be smaller, this decision can be seen as an anticipated solution to the people’s complaints.
The new location is also expected to provide a significant boost to the local economy by creating hundreds of jobs in the retail, food service and logistics sectors of IKEA.
With its arrival, IKEA is set to become a new weekend destination for families, college students, and homeowners looking for stylish and budget-friendly ways to upgrade their beloved living spaces.
