Varsity football lost to the Langley Saxons 35-3 on Homecoming Friday, October 21. The Seahawks now have a 0-8 record with two games remaining in the season.
Despite the encouragement of their fans and the Hype Squad, which showed up at the blackout game in full force, the Seahawks were unable to score a single touchdown for the first time all season.
Langley, on the other hand, seemed to have no trouble scoring.
On defense, Kyle West scored the first points of the game late in the first quarter with an interception return for a Langley touchdown. Later in the half, Langley quarterback Nick Casso threw a touchdown pass to receiver Kevin Wood.
The Seahawks kicked a 23-yard field goal, but the Saxons took a 14-3 lead into halftime.
The second half was dominated by Langley, who maintained control through the rushing efforts of running back Philip Mun and fullback AJ Holtberg.
Mun scored three touchdowns in the second half and a total of 167 rushing yards.
However, the Seahawk loss did not take away from the 2011 Homecoming festivities. At halftime, dance team performed, and the introduction of the class princesses followed as senior Abby Reed was crowned Homecoming Queen.
“I am very honored and excited to be the Homecoming Queen,” said Reed. “I love my class so much, and it’s nice to get a little love back.”
Although this was their last home game of the season, the Seahawks hold out hope that they will be able to win one of their remaining games against Marshall and Thomas Jefferson and improve their record.
