The boys’ varsity lacrosse team pulled a 9-2 win over Thomas Jefferson in one of the most anticipated games of the season.
The team has a long history with TJ that has developed into a rivalry that many do not know about.
Last year the team lost to them once in the regular season and again in district playoffs. TJ has also defeated them in the regional playoffs for the last two years.
“I’m happy we won because they’re big rivals,” captain Chris Jennings said. “We were finally able to prove ourselves and we’re ready if we see them again in playoffs.”
South Lakes spent the majority of the game on offense beating TJ in groundballs, face offs, and shots. The scorers last night included juniors Doug Esherick, Ben Bush, Nate Galbraith, Jack Frail, Joey Flynn and seniors Alex Rofail and Peter Moran.
“They have a lot of the same players and goalie,” Jennings said. “I think this time was different because we have really worked hard and improved as a team.” Â
The boys have four more games left in the regular season including a home game tomorrow against Stone Bridge.
