South Lakes takes home their first win against Yorktown with a final score of 29-28.
Patricia B Stadium was filled with roaring fans for the South Lakes Varsity football team home opener. The band, cheerleaders, students, and parents made it look like a sea of blue and green as they displayed their school spirit, cheering on the team to start the season off strong, taking their first win.
Yorktown’s kicker missed the field goal that could have tied up the score in the final minutes of the game. The audience was on the edge of their seats as their team led their way to victory.
The team has a lot to prove this year, since last season ended in a disappointing 2-8 record. And the previous year, the team went 10-0 breaking the school record.
The team is not looking back; they are looking forward to having a successful season. “Our main goal, our main objective is to go 1-0 focusing on just winning each game, not looking forward to the next one. Our theme this year is find a way. And I was really proud of my team last week, just for embodying the “find a way to win” mentality,” Coach Hescock said.
We asked Coach Hescock what it was like to win the first game of the season, “A lot better than losing. I hate losing more than I like winning. I was really just proud of the guys for fighting through. We put ourselves in a tough spot, but we battled out of it. So I’m really proud of them. It shows they have grit and that’s the best compliment you can give any coach.”
South Lakes football takes on Robinson at their home field next, hoping to bring home another victory.
