On Monday, France Football announced the few winners of their trophies at the award ceremony and one of them was the ballon d’or which is a very important trophy for individual players. The few trophies the players have won during this event were Lamine Yamal, taking home the Kopa Trophy for the best young player currently for his performance with Barcelona. Player Gianluigi Donnarumma, winning the Yashin Trophy for the best Goalkeeper in the world currently his performance in the Champions League with Paris-Saint-Germain (PSG). Coach Luis Enrique, won the Johan Cruyff coaching award for winning the Champions League with PSG. With the last award, Victor Gyokeres won the Gerd Muller top scorer award with his 54 goals in 52 games for Sporting Lisbon.
However, the biggest and most important award of this ceremony was the Ballon D’or and the top two candidates were Lamine Yamal and Ousmane Dembele. The winner was Ousmane Dembele as fans suspected. Soccer fans from all over the world are saying this was a robbery because Raphinha, a brazilian player who plays on the left side of the field for Barcelona as a winger should have been in the race since he combined for a massive 27 G/A in 36 matches, helping Barcelona win the Spanish Super Cup, Copa Del Rey, and the league title (Laliga). he got fifth place, but people are also saying Dembele winning was well deserved.
Ousmane Dembele is a 28 year old French Striker, but he used to play as a right winger. He won the Ballon D’or because of his previous season he had with PSG. His season with PSG included 29 matches, 21 goals, and six assists. Dembele came to Rennes, a team in France, in his first season as a professional. He played 29 matches with 12 goals in his first season. After this season, he moved to Borussia Dortmund, a team in Germany, and played one season with them. He played 50 games and had 10 goals. Some would say this was his best season before he went to PSG. After his first season with Borussia Dortmund, he moved to one of the biggest clubs in Spain in Barcelona. He played six seasons with Barcelona, combining for a total of 186 matches and 40 goals. This wasn’t his best time because he had many injuries, such as a hamstring and knee injury.
With these injuries, he missed 644 days and a total of 106 games just with Barcelona. After a bad time with Barcelona, he moved to PSG to get a fresh start. In his first season, he didn’t do too well with 26 matches combining for 11 G/A. In his second season, he started to show his real skill and prove to people that he is actually good with 29 matches and combined for 27 G/A. This season he won Ligue 1 (League Title) and the Ballon D’or. This previous season he proved that he can be deadly for this super team and be ready for his next season with PSG.
