Mike Evans, star wide receiver for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, just suffered a season ending injury on Monday night’s game. Earlier this season he got injured during a close win against the New York Jets. He left the game limping after hurting his hamstring in the fourth quarter. The coach said it was a “hamstring tweak.” Evans missed a couple of games with that hamstring injury.
Monday night was Evans first game back, where he was tackled by a lions corner back while going for a deep ball. Evans remained motionless on the ground for a time before he was eventually carted off the field. It was later revealed that his collarbone broke.
Evans has been one of the most consistent players in the league. He’s had 11 straight seasons of 1,000 or more receiving yards, tying a record with NFL Hall of Famer Jerry Rice. Because of this injury, it is likely that his record breaking season will be over.
For the team, losing Evans even for a few weeks means they’ll have to rely on other players to step up. Their offense was already dealing with other injuries, so this doesn’t make things easier.
From a fan’s point of view, this kind of news is tough. While he most likely will be unable to set a new record, he still will have tied for it. We’ll all be watching to see how Evans recovers. Until then, the injury riddled, Tampa Bay may find themselves in a tight spot.
