So after two grueling battles knocking out the Ravens and the 49ers in the AFC and NFC Championships, it is settled. The New England Patriots and the New York Giants will face off in Super Bowl XLVI or what will be forever known as “Super Bowl Rematch to the Death.”
Let me first start out with this, in no way, shape or form do the Patriots deserve a trip to the Super Bowl over the Ravens.
Now there may be some passionate Pats fans out there, God knows why, but before you jump to your golden boy’s defense just hear me out.
Tom Brady completed only 22 out of 36 passes for 239 yards, no passing touchdowns, and two interceptions, not a typical performance for the acclaimed quarterback. Perhaps he forgot to put his game boxers on that day (who are we kidding? We all know Tom Brady only wears briefs).
Average Joe threw, and completed, the same number of passes as the beloved Brady but for 70 more yards, two passing touchdowns, and only one interception.
The only reason the Pats took the win was because Billy Cundiff went real-life Ray Finkle on his team and missed a simple 32-yarder. If Cundiff had correctly done the only job he gets paid to do, the game would have gone into overtime, in favor of the Ravens.
Brady’s offense would have been voted off the island quicker than the grandma with arthritis.
And I am not trying to pin all of the team’s shortcomings on Brady because he was not the only thing struggling for New England.
If Belichick can barely get his team to defend against the 10th offensively ranked team in the league, how can we expect his team to shut down the fourth?
To me, the Giants are going to make like Thanksgiving and head back for seconds against the Patriots. Not only did the Giants defeat the Pats in the last post-season meet they had, Super Bowl XLII, but also again in early November, 24-20.
And if a team who lost to the Redskins twice can conquer the Patriots regular season, I have no doubt in their ability to do it again.
Though it is not my ideal match-up, watching the Giants prove who the more ELIte team is should prove to be rewarding.
If only to shut up those obnoxious Pats fans.
