Redskins fall short of fans’ expectations this season

Coming into the season, the Redskins were the defending NFC East champions, being able to make the playoffs last year but unfortunately they fell to the Sea hawks in the Wild card round.

This season, the team from last season is unknown to the Redskins fell short of fans’ expectations as they added another loss to their 2013-14, dropping to 3-11.

This past Sunday, Redskins lost to the Atlanta Falcons 27-26. That was not the only thing they lost on Sunday.

They lost the faith of most of their fans.

“There’s really no point in cheering for them this season anymore,” sophomore Tsheetiz Tamang said. “They’re still my favorite team of course, but it is just depressing watching them lose every Sunday.”

Robert Griffin III was benched in the final quarter of last Sunday’s game, and coach Mike Shanahan put backup quarterback Kirk Cousins in for the rest of the game.

Cousins was announced the starting quarterback for the Redskins this Wednesday, with RG3 being inactive and watching from the sidelines at the Falcons game yesterday.

Kirk Cousins threw for 385 yards and three touchdowns, but that was not enough as the Falcons forced the Redskins to tie a team record five fumbles. They managed to score 20 points off the Redskin’s seven turnovers.

Questions have risen regarding whether Mike Shanahan should be fired at the end of the season. Going into his fifth season, he has only been able to lead the Redskins to the playoffs once.

“Fire Shanahan, because RG3 isn’t the problem, he is,” sophomore Nihal Virk said. “He had surgery on his knee and hasn’t been able to run well as he used to, so it is going to take a while for him to get back to his potential. They should start Cousins occasionally and develop him so they can trade him, but right now RG3 needs to get back to the top of his game and the only way to do that is to play him.”

The Redskins have two more games to play versus division rivals. Next week they play at home against the Dallas Cowboys. The following week is an away game against the New York Giants.
