Varsity girls basketball uses ‘teamwork to make its dream work’

Varsity girls basketball continued its nearly perfect season Friday, beating Madison 60-52.  The Lady Seahawks are ranked fifth in the region with an 11-1 record.

Girls basketball averaged 61.8 points per game, with its opponents averaging 35.3 points.

The loss endured in the nearly perfect record was to Central Bucks West, located in Doyelstown, Pennsylvania. CB West, with a current 8-3 record, is ranked 18th in the state.

Senior forward Abigail Rendle, who averages 13.6 points per game, has high expectations for the remainder of the season.

“Having a team made up of a majority of seniors gives us the experience and determination to make our last season the best,” Rendle said. “It drives everyone to keep up our winning streak.”

The team’s success cannot be credited fully to the seniors, however. Junior forward Princess Aghayere has emerged as one of the best Frontcourts in the Northern Region, according to the Washington Post.

Aghayere posted five double-doubles this season and averages 10.8 points per game.

“I couldn’t do it without the help of my teammates,” Aghayere said. “I just try to get open and not think about the points. I want to do my role, which is rebounding and playing defense.”

Girls basketball consists of a plethora of strong players, one of which gained national attention.

Rendle was recently nominated for the McDonals All-American award. The top 25 girls in the nation are split into two teams for a televised game.

“I am honored to have even been nominated,” Rendle said. “There are so many good players in this area, so I feel lucky to even be considered.”

Girls basketball has nine games left in the regular season. The team hopes to continue their winning streak and end the season strong.
