New York Track Meet
The South Lakes track team had great results this past weekend at the New York Invitational in Staten Island. The team had seven state-qualifying performances and broke both school and meet records at the event.
Sophomore Hannah Waller finished and won the 300 meters with a time of 38.74 breaking the school record of 39.46. Waller, Rhema Konadu, Mary Gregory, and Alyssa Smith ran the 4×200 relay finishing with 1:43.91 breaking the school record of 1:45.38. Along with setting a new school record, the team also qualified for the 6A State Championship. The boys’ 4×800 relay team made up of Sean Casey, Owen Walker, Alex Loukili, and Calvin Warsler, also qualified for the 6A State Championship with a finishing time of 8:11.93.
There were also some individual state qualifying times. Casey qualified in the 1600 meters, finishing in 13th with a time of 4:26.82. Loukili finished 5th in the 1000 meters with a time of 2:35.55, and Isabelle Gulgurt finished in 3rd in the 1600 with a time of 5:04.61.
In the shot put, Ronak Cuthill got his second qualifying throw for the state meet, finishing 3rd place with a throwing distance of 48-07.00.
There were also a few Region qualifying times, Gregory finished 9th with a qualifying time of 42.04 in the 300. The boys 4×200 team with Alex Wallace, Pape Ndiaye, Brandon Crisp and Stevie Jones finishing with a time of 1:34.96 in 13th place.
The South Lakes High School Track Team had a fantastic meet as they broke many records and qualified for future events. Be on the lookout for some of these future stars at The Liberty Premier Invitational Friday, January 12.
