The opening weekend for NCAA baseball has come to an end, and it’s time to go over the top performances.

Starting us off is University of Miami’s Freshman third baseman, Daniel Cuvette. In his first 3 games he went 9-13, with seven runs scored (R), seven runs batted in (RBI), two home runs (HR), two doubles (2B), and two walks (BB). His first collegiate home run at Miami came from an 0-2 offspeed pitch that he drove 460 feet. The Hurricanes have started their first 4 games going 3-1. The Hurricanes swept NJIT this past weekend, going 3-0.

Next is Wake Forest transfer Chase Burns. He had an electric arm in his first start and some of the best energy so far this season. He posted an outstanding performance of 6 IP, 3H, 0R, 1BB, and 10K’s. Preseason he was measured as one of the most impressive arms in the class and showed why in his first start against Illinois. His Fastball averaged a tick over 97 MPH and touched an impressive 101 MPH. Wake Forest is coming off of a sad season losing to the College World Series champs the LSU Tigers, and the acquisition of Burns is great alongside with potential top ten pick in Nick Kurtz.

Oklahoma State University is led by Travis Bazzana. He is the potential Number One overall pick in the 2024 draft and has started his 2024 right where he left off. He recorded 7 hits out of 13 at bats including 3 home runs and 6 RBI. He is already a quarter of the way to his home run total of last year in just the first 3 games of the season.

In the ACC, Florida states pitcher Cam Leiter, in his debut he was electric, going 5 innings pitched only allowing 1 hit and striking out 13 batters. He flashed a mid 90s fastball that topped out at 97 and is a potential top arm in the 2025 draft class. Cam is nephew to MLB all star All Leiter. His uncle played for 19 seasons starting in 1987 going all the way to 2005. Leiter won World Series rings with the Blue Jays (1993) and Marlins (1997) and was an NL All-Star in 1996 and 2000. This baseball gene going through his family boasts a great future ahead of this young man.
