Algebra 1 and geometry teacher Deanne McDaid is a new, part-time teacher at South Lakes, teaching only on green days.
Born and raised in San Diego, California, McDaid attended San Diego University and University of California at Irvine. Before getting into teaching, McDaid majored in engineering. While doing so, she had a part-time job at a school which made her fall in love with teaching.
McDaid taught both middle and high school in San Diego for seven years. She left California for Virginia in pursuit of better job opportunities.
Although she loves the seasons here, she misses the constant beautiful weather in California where she still visits every summer to see her family.
McDaid has four children who each currently attend schools ranging from elementary school to college. When not attending their athletic events or her husband’s games in which he referees, McDaid cares for her garden, plays golf with her friends, and watches football.
Of her teaching experiences, McDaid prefers teaching high school.
“I wanted to teach high school because I really wanted to teach geometry,” said McDaid. “The students are more mature, and I like going to the school events such as the football games.”
