On March 10th, 2024, Jimmy Kimmel hosted the 96th Oscars awards ceremony. Many exceptional nominees attended the ceremony, however, not everyone left with an Oscar. The night was eventful, with standout performances and shocking wins.

The award show was divided into categories including Best Picture, Best Animated Feature, Best Live Action Short Film, Best Visual Effects, Best Original Score, Best Cinematography, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Film Editing, and Best Production Design. The most awarded film of the night was “Oppenheimer,” which won Best Picture, Best Original Score, Best Cinematography and Best Film Editing. The next most popular film at the ceremony was “Poor Things,” which won Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Costume Design and Best Production Design. “The Boy and the Heron” won Best Animated Feature and “The Wonderful Story of Harry Sugar” won Best Live Action Short Film. “Godzilla Minus One” won Best Visual Effects.

There were many talented musical performances throughout the show. The most epic performance of the night was Ryan Gosling’s “I’m Just Ken.” He was dressed in a sparkly hot pink suit with black sunglasses and joined by songwriter Mark Ronson on stage. He also performed with his fellow Ken costars, Simu Liu, Scott Evans, Ncuti Gatwa, and Kingsley Ben-Adir. The performance blew people away, and even his co-star Margot Robbie couldn’t contain her laughter. Near the end of his performance he asked “Barbie” director Greta Gerwig and his co-star America Ferrea to help sing along. “I’m Just Ken” was nominated for Best Original Song, but that award went to “What Was I Made For” by Billie Eilish, another song off the “Barbie” soundtrack. Other performances included Jon Batiste’s “It Never Went Away,” Becky G’s “The Fire Inside,” Scott George and the Osage Singers’ “Wahzhazhe (A Song for My People),” and Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell’s “What Was I Made For?”

There were so many amazing actors who won awards at the 2024 Oscars. Cillian Murphy won Best Actor for his role in the movie “Oppenheimer” while his co-star Robert Downey Jr won Best Supporting Actor. Da’Vine Joy Randolph won Best Supporting Actress and Emma Stone won Best Actress. Christopher Nolan won the award for Best Director, presented by the famous director Steven Spielberg. The 96th Oscars ceremony was a huge night for Hollywood and represented the phenomenal films that were made in 2023.
