Spring has sprung, and it’s time to get out and enjoy the outdoors! Here are some activities that can be enjoyed by anyone throughout the season.

Visit the Reston Area’s Local Attractions
Frying Pan Farm Park is a free park located in Herndon, VA. It is a fully functioning farm from the 20the century with animals, farm equipment, and wagon rides.
Roer’s Zoofari, or the Reston Zoo, is a Reston landmark. It’s a family owned zoo that has been a part of the Reston community for the past 43 years. It has zebras, camels, ostriches, bison, water buffalos, coatis, cheetahs, warthogs, and many more. There is also a petting zoo with goats, a reptile house, and wagon rides.
Walker Nature Center contains 72 acres of forest filled with miles of trails, a pavilion, pond education center, and many opportunities to learn about nature.
Meadowlark Gardens is 95 acres of land with ornamental displays and unique native plant collections. It also has various lakes, ponds, forests, and walking trails.

Go for a Hike
Scott’s Run Nature Preserve in McLean is a 2.3 mile hike that includes a waterfall, stream crossing, and cliffside views of the Potomac. During the summer time its waterfall is a hot spot for swimming. It’s home to lots of wildlife as well.
Difficult Run is 5 mile long hike in Great Falls. It goes along the Potomac, through wooded areas, and leads into Great Falls National Park, another great area for hiking.
The Billy Goat Trail is a7.3 mile long hike in Potomac, MD. It’s a rocky and difficult hike along the Maryland side of Great Falls Park. It has beautiful views, but only try it if you’re up for rock scrambling and steep steps.

Play in the Water
Lake Anne/Lake Fairfax Boat Rentals offers hourly rentals of kayaks, paddle boats, and canoes at either of the two lakes.
Surf’s Up Reston offers paddle board lessons. They also offer paddleboard yoga. The events are held at Lake Anne, Audubon, Newport, and Thoreau.
