Art Spotlight: Alex Otero

Junior Alex Otero, a Photography student here at South Lakes, has had an interest in the arts for as long as he can remember. He recalled that when was younger, he would doodle in all the blank pages of his children’s coloring books.

“Art is like coffee in the morning for me; it’s just something that helps me get by,” Otero stated.

Student are working on a project called “product” where using photography in advertising. Alex shared with us the project he is working on. He and his partner took pictures of themselves in Lush facemasks; they said it was a blast editing the photos.

Alex is new to photography, so he had to learn as much as possible as quickly as possible, including how to use a camera. He explained that being in Photography has really helped him develop his art and made him more comfortable sharing his artwork.

Otero doesn’t always know what his final product will look like, but when he gets an idea he acts on it and sees it through to completion. “Whenever I get in rut, I push through it, and just keep going,” he remarked.

Alex Otero is a very dedicated art student and is excited to see what the future holds for him and his art.
