The spooky Halloween season is over, and the next holiday season to look forward to is Thanksgiving. From traditional turkey to sweet pies, Thanksgiving is a time for families to sit down, slow down, and enjoy feasts. This year, Thanksgiving is on Thursday, November 23rd, 2023. With the broad selection of traditional foods, there are many different favorites.

To see which meal is the most favored, statistics were collected by Form to see what was popular. The dishes listed in this survey were:

  • Turkey
  • Mashed potatoes
  • Mac and Cheese
  • Stuffing
  • Green Bean Casserole
  • Sweet Potato Casserole
  • Cranberry sauce
  • Gravy
  • Pumpkin Pie
  • Apple Pie
  • Bread Rolls

4th place was a tie between Turkey, and Cranberry sauce, each with 2 votes. Turkey is the centerpiece of Thanksgiving, with a moist and tender feeling in every bite. Cranberry sauce is a nice contrast to all of these foods, being slightly sour and a nice variation in the comfortable warm connotation of most Thanksgiving foods.

In 3rd place was Mac and Cheese, a common American favorite, with its tangy cheese flavor mixed with the chewiness of the pasta.

2nd place was Apple pie, with 4 votes. It’s a dessert with flaky crust, savory cinnamon, and soft and sweet apples.

In 1st place, with 5 votes, was Mashed Potatoes. With the creamy texture of the potatoes mixed with the salty and savory taste of the butter, this is an obvious favorite.

According to Finance Buzz, 50% of all Turkeys that are purchased in the US are consumed on Thanksgiving. 80,000,000 pounds/lbs of cranberries are purchased on this day. Moreover, according to AFAR, the busiest travel days of the year are the Tuesday and Wednesday before Thanksgiving, and Sunday. Thanksgiving is an event bringing families together every year, and it’s an opportunity to share experiences and eat wholesome foods!
