Junior Ponmali Photavath, an art student, has artwork showcased in the art gallery by the school entrance.
Why did you choose art as your elective?
I chose art for my elective because art has been my passion since as long as I can remember. I always loved to draw anything and everything.
What art-related courses are you taking?
Right now I’m taking IB Art I and Ceramics.
What was the inspiration for your painting?
Over the summer, I attended Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington, DC. Every morning, I would ride the bus and the Metro to the school. The ride was about an hour and a half long, so I drew people I saw.
How did you feel when you found out it was going to be hung by the entrance?
I felt extremely happy and proud. The picture took about a month to complete, so I was really happy to hear that it would be hung up by the entrance.
What is your favorite part of art?
My favorite part of art is how diverse and subjective it is. There are so many different forms and interpretations of artwork that I really feel as if pieces call out to similar people that can relate to them.
Is this something you would pursue in the future?
I definitely want to double major in both art and chemistry, but if that’s not possible, it would most likely be a minor degree in college.
