Flappy Bird craze takes flight with students

Flappy Bird is one of the most popular smartphone games among students.

Students who downloaded Flappy Bird before its removal from app stores play the game on their cell phones, trying to beat their friends’ high scores as well as their own.

“I spend almost all day playing on my phone,” senior Sara Elbayya said. “People are so obsessed with Flappy Bird because it’s so hard, and it’s so hard to just get a higher score every time.”

In a poll of 100 students, 60 Seahawks reported being addicted to playing games such as Flappy Bird.

“People are so obsessed with Flappy Bird because they want to beat their records.” freshman Evan Parker said. “Their high scores are really low, which makes you think you’re bad at the game. This compels you to try harder, it becomes a competition within itself.”

Despite the difficulty, some students also find Flappy Bird amusing.

“I play Flappy Bird, because it’s fun and entertaining,” sophomore Mano Gohar said . “It’s something I do to pass the time, and it just kind of turns into an addiction.”

Even though Flappy Bird is no longer available on the app stores, similar games such as Splashy Fish were released.
