This year, South Lakes welcomes a familiar face as the new director of student services, former counselor Davina Johnson.
“I’m glad to be back home,” said Johnson.
Johnson grew up as an army dependent, commonly known as an army brat, causing her to move around the country as a child.
Johnson began high school at Osbourn Park High School in Manassas, Virginia, but graduated in Germany after her father’s job moved her family out of the country. She also made several trips to countries such as Russia, Spain, and France.
After graduating from South Carolina State University, Johnson became a counselor at South Lakes, but left after a few years to tend to her children.
“I’m now a proud mother of two,” said Johnson.
Johnson is now back full time and ready to help support the South Lakes community.
“I want a hand in everything related to students.”
Johnson tries to stay visible to all Seahawks either in individual, group, or classroom settings.
As the director of student services, Johnson manages the schedules for students and helps new students and families coming to South Lakes. She is also involved with the IB program, career center, academic support, and issues involving student safety.
Johnson replaces Shannon Tully, who retired last year after completing a 37-year career in education.
