As Class Officer, Student Advisory Council, and Executive Council elections approach, students should keep in mind several requirements and changes to this year’s selection process.
Students who wish to run for leadership positions must meet the eligibility requirements before beginning their respective processes and must attend a mandatory interest meeting on Monday, April 8 at 2:15 p.m. in the cafeteria.
Those who want to run for Class Officer positions should keep in mind that elections require them to turn in an application, campaign, and deliver a speech to their class. Class Officer positions include president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, and historian.
The Student Advisory Council consists of four delegates who will represent South Lakes at monthly meetings regarding high school issues. These delegates will be selected after they turn in the required forms and attend an interview held by a panel consisting of an administrator, teacher counselor, and two previous SAC members.
The Executive Council has an entirely new process. Only students who are currently in the Leadership Class and who have applied for next year’s Leadership Class were eligible to run for Executive Council. Rising seniors Kacey Hirshfeld, Olivia Wolfe, Rebecca Malaret, Megan DeSisti, and Katie Asmussen will make up next year’s Executive Council.
The new selection process was implemented because administrators believe that those who are in the Leadership class will have a better idea as to what it takes to be a part of the Executive Council.
“It’s extremely advantageous for whoever becomes executive members to have been a part of that planning process the year before, so they know exactly how, not just the time commitment that it takes, but who to contact, the timeline, what things worked lasted year, and what things didn’t work last year,” Leadership teacher Lindsay Roseborough said.
