Varsity football is preparing for what is arguably the biggest game of the season, homecoming. Usually the school is abuzz with talk of the game on Friday night, and despite the team’s 0-7 record, a large turnout is expected.
“I still expect a great turnout,” said activities director Mike Astudillo. “There is something about spirit at this school. It’s electrifying, and it’s going to be amazing.”
Not only is it homecoming, however, it is also the last home game of the season, a fact that will add even more pressure to the already immense weight of the game.
“I feel concerned and anxious, especially since this is our senior’s last chance to play for this school and its fans,” said freshman student council member Grant Chustz.
Not only is it the seniors last chance to play for the school and its students and faculty, it’s their last opportunity to make a mark on the football program.
No player wants to end their last high school season without a win.
“Yes, I believe we will win,” said Chustz. “We have faced some tough opponents such as Stonebridge and Fairfax that have improved our play this season.”
Many would think that the lack of wins would deter fans from coming even though it is homecoming, but that is not the vibe around the school. Students still plan to show and support the team.
“I still plan to attend the game,” said Chustz. “I want to watch the game with my friends and support the team.”
Even though students want to attend and give the varsity team their support, some believe that the Seahawks will not get a win on Friday.
“Even though we are probably going to lose, I think the Hype Squad will be huge because people want to show support for our team,” said sophomore varsity cheerleader Jessie Kreson. “ The fact that the game is a blackout will add to the excitement.”
