Next week the varsity boys basketball team will face two opponents at home on Tuesday and Friday.
On Tuesday the Saxons of Langley High School will visit to play the Seahawks. The Saxons defeated the Seahawks in their last meeting in December on a night where both teams wore gold laces to honor the daughter of the Langley coach who suffered from pediatric cancer.
The Saxons are led by a powerful inside duo of Brad Dotson (11.5ppg) and Justin Galiani (10.4ppg) as well as junior guard Garrett Collier (9.9ppg). This will be a tough inside game where post teams will look to pound the ball inside. Look for South Lakes newly appointed starter junior guard Dre Puryear (7.8ppg) to try and push the ball and create a fast paced game that favors the Seahawks guard focused offense.
On Friday night the Seahawks will defend home court against the Colonials of Thomas Jefferson High School. South Lakes will look to repeat its earlier performance, as all three levels swept Jefferson on their own court in late December. The eight and seven Colonials main point of attack will be with their seniors Joe Nissen (13.6ppg), Migdam Gebril (9.9ppg), and Marcus Prater (9.9ppg) who account for the majority of Jefferson’s offense.
The Colonials will be out to steal a win from the Seahawks who currently have a three and four record in the Liberty District. This will be another fast paced game with both guard play and post play playing key roles to each team’s success on offense. After the last matchup was determined by only eight points the team that finds an effective combination of inside and outside play will be likely to gain the upper hand in the game.
