South Lakes is known for its diverse population and varying fashions, but there is one student that stands out. That student is Ryan Meixner, a junior who has worn the color orange every day since the second semester of the 2010-11 school year.
“Orange is my favorite fruit and my favorite color,” said Meixner. “My friends call me Citrus.”
Meixner can be found in the hallways in his orange hoodie or other orange clothing, including the bright orange backpack he wears every day.
“Mr. Butler came to me during lunch and commented on my backpack,” said Meixner. “He said it was the second brightest one he has ever seen.”
Not only does he always have his neon backpack, but he wears a large orange watch and bracelet as well.
Some students wonder why of all colors he chose to wear orange.
“I’m good friends with a band,” Meixner said. “They’re the ones who got me into the whole orange thing.”
The band is called “Five-One” and consists of four musicians who each have a specific color they wear, including yellow, red, blue, and green. Meixner, being a friend of the band, took over the color orange.
Meixner’s parents were not always on board with his decision to wear the same color every day, but eventually they let him make the decision on his own.
“After a while my parents even let me paint my room orange,” said Meixner.
Like most fashions there are students who support Meixner and students who do not. However he has impressed a few students with the length of time that he has been committed to wearing the color.
“I honestly didn’t think he would be able to wear orange all the time,” said junior Kareem Rahman.
Meixner has plans to wear the color orange every day for as long as possible.
