Since elementary school, Alison Starling has always loved the idea of newscasters, knowing what was going on in the world before everyone else did. So it only seemed fitting that she pursues a career as a journalist.
“I loved the idea of being in the know.” Starling said. “Getting to the bottom of stories, finding interviews and writing those stories”
Starling’s passion for journalism started when she developed an interest in television news. At a young age, she began watching local and national anchors and knew one day that would be her job.
“My favorite anchors include Peter Jennings, Diane Sawyer, and Leon Harris when he worked at CNN.” Starling said. “Ironically I now work side by side with Leon and Interact with Diane often. It has most definitely been a dream come true for me.”
Starling began her career in Chattanooga, Tennessee where she was a reporter there for three years. She then moved to Seattle, Washington as a reporter for another three years. And currently she has been anchoring the local Channel 7 news at 5 and 11 p.m. here in Washington, DC for the past nine years.
“I absolutely love anchoring the nightly news here in DC.” Starling said.
Starling has many memorable experiences and interviews throughout her career. “My experience interviewing First Lady Laura Bush was definitely an amazing event.” Starling Said. “Also covering the blizzards and earthquakes that happened within the past few years here in the DC metropolitan area.”
In 2011, Starling won an Emmy award for continuing coverage of the earthquake that happened in August of 2011. And in 2012, Starling received another Emmy Award for Best Anchor.
