Apple TV has set Season three of hit psychological thriller show Severance to premiere mid-2027. The anticipated season has only recently been greenlit for production and filming, which is planned to take place “from April to December of 2026,” according to Apple TV News Hub.
What is known so far is that scripts have been finalized and writers are ready for filming to begin. Filming is slated to be eight months long, followed by a post-production of roughly six to nine months that will get the show to a finished state for its release. Though not accounting for possible delays, this is less time than fans had to wait to receive the show’s second season after the premiere of the first.
The show has been showered with accolades for numerous aspects of its production, including acting, set design, direction, and cinematography. The second season even set a record for the most nominations at both the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards and the 74th Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards. Among the nominees was Tramell Tillman, the first black and openly queer person to win the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.
The series itself observes the employees of Lumon, a mysterious biotechnology company that keeps their employees’ memories separated between work and home life, starring Adam Scott as Mark Scout, a worker on the “severed” floor. Severance unravels the conspiracy behind Lumon, a conspiracy that the audience is deliberately kept in the dark about.
At the end of Season two, the show still keeps its secrets, and leaves the door open for an extension of the storyline. As the plot proves, the creators of Severance like nothing more than to keep audiences in the dark about what they know. As Jeremy Mathai from SlashFilm put it, “fans might’ve felt like they finally had a handle on what kind of show this was and where the plot seems to be headed,” but “there are still plenty of mysteries to unravel and clues to obsess over and rabbit holes to tumble down.”
Though fans speculate that it might end at four seasons, due to a recurring theme relating to the number four, there is no planned ‘final season,’ and the series could end after three or keep going. Given that cameras will be rolling in April, fans will be hunting for casting notices and waiting for potential teasers from Apple.
