Chappell Roan fans, or shall I say ex-fans, are outraged at the lies Chappel Roan has spread throughout her career.
Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, also known as pop star, Chappell Roan, (named after her grandfather’s surname, Chappell, and his favorite song ‘The Strawberry Roan) is facing intense backlash over the lies she has spread over the span of her career about her personal life. Roan’s grandfather, Dennis K. Chappell, was a multi-millionaire, Missouri based, family man and business partner. Chappell was the co-founder and business partner of an insurance company called Proctor-Jarvis-Chappell Insurance Agency. Chappell also built and owned a golf course that he lived on with over 20 houses on the land that people could rent and buy, with an airport next door, housing the planes he owned.
The reason fans are speculating that Roan is truly a nepo baby in disguise is not only because of the fact that her grandfather was so rich, but also the fact that her mother is a veterinarian who owns a mobile vet hospital and her father is a nurse. Yet, Roan claims she grew up poor.
Roan has not only stated that she grew up in a trailer park, had no health insurance, but also lied about the fact that the summer camp she had gone to in 2014 where she had met many fans, was actually a three thousand dollar a week Grammy summer camp. She referred to the camp as an “art camp.” “But, it’s very important to me to pay homage to how I grew up because I love the aesthetic of […] the fact that I lived in a trailer park,” Roan said. “I was so close to giving up. If I wasn’t going to do music, then I would probably just go back home and be an esthetician and a drag queen. When you’ve been poor; you’re not really scared of anything,” Roan said in a Los Angeles Times interview.
In reality, she grew up in a very conservative, rich household. Fans believe that she is performative and only speaking out on certain issues for more fame and clout. Roan has even spoken multiple times about how “the Grammy’s are a talent show for rich people,” though, again, she participated in the summer camp, had submitted her work to the Grammy’s over eight times, and won an award for Best New Artist in 2025. Her speech consisted of claiming she could not afford health insurance. “Because I got signed so young- I got signed as a minor, and when I got dropped I had zero job experience under my belt and like most people, I had a difficult time finding a job in the pandemic and could not afford health insurance,” Roan said.
Fans worldwide are starting to think that Roan romanticizes being poor for inspiration, fame, and money. But now we see that the relatability she has built up over the years was a lie all along.
