Actively participate to make senior year memorable, not disappointing

Senior year is supposed to be the highlight of high school. The prime of the four years, the “we rule the school” year.

South Lakes has been our home for the past four years. Four homecoming weeks, four Baron Cameron Bowls, and many more great memories along the way. But this year has seemed different, different than what the high expectations had given us.

No togas, no spirit stick, a three-day homecoming week. It just seems different than what was expected of the year.

Though it may appear as if we are being shorted of the senior year we deserve, it will only get better.

Senior privileges have just recently started and are set to increase throughout the school year. Though many feel as if we are being punished for actions we did not commit, think about what made everything special over the past four years.

Is senior year memorable because you won a two-foot long stick decorated with streamers? Or, does screaming your lungs out with your best friends in attempt to win a two foot long stick make senior year unforgettable? Did you put a picture of yourself in royal blue and Kelly green or one with all of your friends dressed in a sea of blue and green on Instagram?

These past four years have not been special because of the activities the school has put on but because you participated in the school activities with some of your best friends.

Senior year is not made by what you do but who you do it with.

To the underclassmen of the school: take heed of this warning. Go to the school activities, thehomecoming dance, and the Baron Cameron Bowl. Actively participate in anything that seems fun, make friends with unexpected people, and, most of all, do not worry that it is only four years.    Every year, the school will put on the same activities. Herndon and South Lakes will play, we will have homecoming week (even if three days is not technically a week), and a pep rally, but these activities will only be as fun as you make them.

Go out with your friends and participate lively in school activities. You don’t want to look back on four years and think you wasted it. Trust me, it is not a good feeling.
