After interviewing two hundred students, it is concluded that junior Anderson Moore is arguably the most dedicated musician at South Lakes, with sophomore Ben Kim coming in a close second.
“Piano is my life,” said Moore. “I play over 10 hours a week during the school year, and around 5 hours a day in the summer.”
Moore played violin before he switched to the piano. He has been playing for two years and taught himself to play using YouTube videos.
“I wasn’t great at violin and the school needed a pianist so I stepped in,” said Moore. “I was inspired to practice when I watched other young piano prodigies play.”
Moore shows his music dedication by turning himself into a piano player, rather than having a teacher lecture him or an instructor nagging.
“I’ve played every day during lunch for the past two years. All I have at home is a keyboard so I love to play the piano at school,” said Moore.
Moore says he has a musically inclined family who support his efforts to become a pianist. His sister is a violinist and his mom a singer so they relate to his dreams in music.
Moore’s friends also support him, helping him come up with songs to play and try to inspire him.
“My friends are great, even when they’re bugging me to learn pop songs,” said Moore. “I can’t complain though, I liked playing ‘Dynamite’ and ‘Hey Soul Sister.’”
The hardest piece Moore has played was “Moonlight Sonata.”
Moore not only enjoys playing the piano and frequently writes his own compositions in his spare time.
“I’m working on my tenth song,” said Moore, “I played some of my music for the IBMYP project.”
For the project Moore played his original piece “Everything’s Okay.”
His favorite skill that he gained from learning how to play is his ability to perform certain songs blindfolded.
