Chorus performs for a panel of judges during district assessment

Chorus attended a the Virginia Music Educators Association (VMEA) district assessment at Chantilly High School March 22.

“It’s pretty much our equivalent of the SOL,” sophomore Rhet Fetter said. “All you do is go up, perform and some judges score you. One is the best, five is the worst. Then you’re given a song that you’ve never seen before, and you try to sing it well.”

Scores are given about a day after the assessment.

“I was a little bit nervous,” freshman Nathan Nkomba said. “I wasn’t sure how we did. I was afraid we did badly, and I wanted to know if we did badly or not.”

The assessment took place from 9:20 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

“It was a really fun thing to do,” Nkomba said. “It was really hectic all day. I feel like we could’ve done better if we practiced more, but I had a lot of fun.”
