Every year, UVA picks ten students for their “Posse Scholarship” program. In this program, the ten students selected go through college as a group. They have monthly meetings with their sponsors, and help each other all throughout college.

This year, South Lakes’ senior Lucy Rosst got accepted into the program for the graduating class of 2030.

“At the end of junior year, Mrs. Luongo sent out a message about this opportunity called the Posse Scholars Program,” Rosst said. “My friend told me to apply, and Mrs. Luongo nominated me. There are three rounds of interviews. The night of the third interview, UVA called me and said that I got the scholarship.”

Rosst, who is planning to pursue a Political Philosophy, Policy, and Law major starting in her sophomore year, explained why UVA stood out to her compared to other colleges.

“I took a tour of the campus and I thought it was somewhere I could feel at home. The academics are also very strong, and I thought that I could make a lot of connections since most of the student body is from Virginia.”

For the students who are in UVA’s Posse scholarship, their tuition is completely paid off by the university. Words of wisdom from Rosst is that you need to “Know yourself really well. The reason I was able to get my scholarship was because I knew myself, knew what I wanted, and knew what my goals were. Knowing yourself will make your application ten times stronger. That’s how I got into UVA.”
