Ever wonder what its like to live in the Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, and Farmville,Virginia? Well just ask one of our new German teachers here at South Lakes, Joanna Damare.
Damare was born in Silver Spring, Maryland and grew up in Sterling, Virginia. In high school, she played lacrosse, was on the swim team, and was involved in the German and art clubs.
She attended Longwood University, studying art and baking dog biscuits for animal shelters.
“We would find animal shelters in the area near schooland go help walk dogs and give them a little TLC,” said Damare. “It was a poor area so they didn’t get as much love and attention as they could have somewhere else.”
Before coming to South Lakes, Damare worked at a private school in Germany. She has coached swimming and has worked at a day care.
Her past experiences with kids and learning led to her teaching career.
“(I’m) always working with kids and doing TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) overseas,” said Damare.
